Sizing Pack Instructions

50 Caliber Sizing Pack

No Excuses 5o Caliber Sizing Pack

The 50 Caliber Sizing Pack enables you to determine the exact diameter of the bore of your muzzle loader,  thus enabling you to choose the correct diameter bullet to optimize it’s performance and ease in loading.

Begin by holding the tube so that the label can be read.  The bullets are loaded from left to right beginning with the first bullet on the left.  Remove the left red cap.  The first bullet is sized at .500 and should have a “0” either written or stamped on the bottom of the bullet.  The bullets will get progressively larger as you remove them from the tube, i.e. second bullet should be sized at .501 and have a “1” written or stamped on the bottom, next bullet .502….”2″ on the bottom and on and on.

Start with the smallest bullet “0” by slipping it carefully in the bore, paying particular attention to how much (or little) pressure it takes to start and eventually seat it in the bottom of the bore.  You can either seat each bullet against a charge of powder and shoot it to clear it, or remove the breech plug and push the bullet completely thru or take a screwed jag and remove the bullet back out the muzzle.  Whichever process you choose, you must remove each bullet before moving on to the next larger bullet.  If you choose to shoot it out, then you will need to ensure that the bore is clean before testing the next sized bullet. Comparing the tightness of each bullet needs to have the same bore cleanliness.

Repeat the process until you have found the bullet that fits correctly. Too loose and the bullet could migrate off the powder charge while hunting, causing a VERY DANGEROUS even DEADLY situation if fired.  Too tight and you could damage the crown of the bullet with your ramrod as you seat it, causing inaccuracy.  Remember, it will probably be a bit harder to load after the first shot so choose a bullet that fits tight enough to not move off the powder when seated, even with vigorous shaking and one that can be loaded without damaging the crown of the bullet in a fouled bore if a second shot is needed.

That completes the process.  Please understand that  the Sizing Pack is not to be used a second time so pay close attention while trial fitting the individual bullets.  The first couple bullets will probably not be disturbed but as you reach the optimum sized bullet some “squeezing” of the bullet could change it’s original size and not accurately gauge the size of a bore if used again.  If you have more than one gun you may want to consider buying a Sizing Pack for each gun.
